Woodberry Down Estate Regeneration

Client: Berkeley Homes

Borough: London Borough of Hackney

Date: May 2021 - present

Comm Comm UK is delivering a phased consultation and engagement strategy for the ongoing regeneration of Woodberry Down Estate - a scheme which first gained planning permission in 2008. To date, phases 1 and 2 are completed, phase 3 is under construction and we consulted on phase 4 in autumn 2022. We are currently in the middle of the new consultation for the 2023 Masterplan, revisiting the plans for the whole estate. This included a series of community workshops in spring 2023 and a series of public events and community outreach in November 2023.

To ensure a collaborative approach, the regeneration is being brought forward by Berkeley Homes in partnership with Hackney Council, Woodberry Down Community Organisation, Notting Hill Genesis and Manor House Development Trust. Comm Comm UK has liaised closely with the partners, ensuring all have contributed to the consultation programme plan. There are regular Design Committee meetings, giving partners the opportunity to input into key decisions and ensure everyone has up-to-date, relevant information.

Since the last masterplan in 2013, the community’s needs of their homes and area has changed, as seen in the most recent ward profiles from 2021. We have used the Commonplace platform to assess the performance of previous phases of development and understand what residents would like to see delivered in the remaining phases.

To ensure we receive maximum engagement and feedback from across all parts of the community, we also manage a programme of community events throughout the year, including a Spring Fair and a Halloween party at the Redmond Centre. Comm Comm UK has also set up links with local organisations such as Woodberry Aid Food Bank.
