Visiting Woodgate
Local sixth-former Harry Hutson shares his experience of working at Comm Comm UK this summer.
Prior to my week of work experience with Comm Comm, I was unsure on what the communications field entailed, however, I was excited to work within my passion of housing development. As the week went on I learned and experienced the fundamentals of communications and marketing through competitor analysis as well as writing stakeholder biographies and developing key massaging.
I was fortunate to be able to sit in on a meeting with a social housing provider, where I was able to understand the challenges of a large-scale housing refurbishment and how developments can have the highest chances of succeeding.
The highlight of my week was undoubtedly a visit with Hannah to see a completed housing development at Woodgate in Pease Pottage, this allowed me to understand what a successful housing project appears as, in its final stages. Furthermore, I gained an understanding of local placemaking within the coffee shop and general store, which were community volunteer-run and supported by the lovely people at Plunkett.
Overall, I have had the chance to experience office culture with a handful of lovely people, I have been taught skills which I will be using frequently in my career and have loved every minute of this experience. Thank you Comm Comm for a brilliant week and taking me under your wing through the rollercoaster of communications.
