Golden Lane Estate

Comm Comm has worked with City of London’s Major Works team to deliver planning communications for a window refurbishment project and major communal works programme at Golden Lane, a grade II (and grade II*) estate near The Barbican.

Our role:

Existing site:

  • 1950 Grade II listed social housing estate

  • Includes Crescent House, as Grade II* building with distinctive arched windows

  • Estate includes seven other blocks, all in need to

    refurbishment

  • Planning application for the main works was granted in December 2023; specific applications now being lodged.

Scheme deliverables:

  • Major window refurbishment across all properties on the estate

  • Starts with Crescent House, a Grade II* listed building with specific design features, that requires sensitive design and installation

  • Forms part of a major works programme across the estate, including ventilation works and roofing.

Communications undertaken:

  • To take over the communications with residents on an extensive windows refurbishment project

  • Establish an estate-wide Community Steering Group (meeting monthly)

  • Forge trusted relationships with existing resident

    groups across the estate (including Crescent House RLG and resident ward members)

  • Work with the project team, including architect, planner and CoL representatives, to disseminate technical information to the residents

  • Have an onsite presence (once a week) to meet

    residents and share plans

  • Assist with the decanting process (6 flats at a time)

  • Produce regular project newsletters

  • Build new project website

  • Monitor project inbox and manage responses.

Status of scheme:

  • We have recently been appointed on the project (October 2024)

  • Planning application expected to be submitted in early 2025

  • Construction work expected to last at least three years.
