Podium of the Barbican Estate

Comm Comm UK were appointed by the City Corporation to carry out public and stakeholder engagement relating to the second phase of works on the podium of the Barbican Estate.

The original objective of the scheme was to repair the podium and the drainage system to prevent further ingress and damage to the Grade II listed Barbican Estate.  This provided an opportunity to introduce landscape enhancements and improvement to the greening and biodiversity of the estate, in line with the City Corporation’s Climate Action Strategy.

Public consultation started in October 2021 and was successful in reaching and receiving feedback from a large number of people, building a good working relationship with the local community and promoting the benefits of the scheme.

We were delighted that Planning and Listed Building Consent was successfully achieved at Committee in June 2023. This significant milestone paves the way for an exciting landscaping scheme that will enhance the City of London's public realm and we look forward to seeing this scheme come to life.
